The History of The River Center
The River Center began in the early 1990s with two family-centered organizations in the Eastern Monadnock region, the Parent Guidance Center and Families and Communities Together.
By 2002, these two organizations joined forces and merged to become The Family Center of Greater Peterborough.
In 2010, the governing boards of The Family Center of Greater Peterborough and another local charitable organization, The River Center, voted to merge into one organization, The River Center: A Family and Community Resource Center, to more effectively and efficiently deliver family support and economic opportunity programs and services to those in Peterborough, Jaffrey, and surrounding towns. These programs continue to this day.
In 2018, The River Center was designated by the Wellness and Primary Prevention Council of the NH legislature as a Family Resource Center of Quality (FRC-Q) and then redesignated in 2021. You can learn more about the designation here.
