The Summer Explorers group has been exploring trails all around this part of the Monadnock region. Ever wonder which trails to hike with young children?  Mackenzie, Family Support Specialist, breaks down her Top 5 Hiking Trails for Young Kids.
Picture
  1. Evans Flats Trail on Evans Rd in Peterborough- a 1.1 mile loop if you take the shorter version which is shown on the trail map.  Lots of shallow streams and small foot bridges.
  2. Casalis State Forest Peterborough Elm Hill Rd- a nice gravel trail down to a swampy pond where you and catch salamanders, frogs and just enjoy the pond life.
  3. Fremont Trail Old Jaffrey Rd Peterborough-  a nice Field trail that does eventually go into the woods.  In the field you will find lots to explore- caterpillars, birds, plants and a small stream.
  4. Crotched Mountain Accessible Trails  near Crotched Mountain Rehab School-  Trails are hard packed gravel good for strollers!  You will wind through the woods where you will see lots of plant life and hear the birds above!
  5. Hiroshi Loop Trail Dublin-  A fun hike for the whole family! This trail is a bit longer at 1.9 miles but it is well worth the hike. It is mostly flat with a small hill in the beginning (down). At about the halfway point the trail will open up and you will be walking along the river.  It is the perfect spot for a picnic before you hike back.  Along the way don't forget to roll over some logs looking for some forest floor friends!
