Margaret Nelson honored for leadership and innovative initiatives

The NH Center for Nonprofits presented five important awards at its Nonprofit Impact Celebration. Margaret Nelson, Executive Director of The River Center, received the New Hampshire Impact Award which honors nonprofit employees for significant contributions to their organizations, the nonprofit sector, and the state.

Presenting the award, Kathleen Reardon, CEO of the NH Center for Nonprofits, recognized Nelson for her extraordinary commitment to The River Center’s mission, staff, and community; and her unique ability to bring individuals and groups together to support innovative initiatives that improve services for individuals and families.

​Reardon cited Nelson’s role in developing successful programs in collaboration with towns, faith communities, and school districts; and her leadership roles in numerous regional and statewide organizations and coalitions. She also recognized Nelson’s compassionate and effective leadership enabling The River Center to move to a more accessible location and oversee its renovation, expanding professional development for staff, and helping to develop a highly functioning board.

Quoting Nelson’s nominator, Reardon said, “Margaret Nelson consistently demonstrates the values and qualities of an extraordinary nonprofit leader. She works exceedingly well with her staff and board, is an accomplished fundraiser, and collaborator with other nonprofits, and she is also a truly fun, creative, delightful person.”
Staff and board members of The River Center were among the more than 150 guests to celebrate with Margaret and the other honorees at the awards ceremony held at the Bank of NH Stage in Concord, NH.
